Professor Kurt-W. Bütow trained at 4 different national and international universities. He has been awarded with 9 degrees and fellowship qualifications, of which 3 are doctoral degrees and 3 are fellowships. The most recent honorary-fellowship is the most prestigious one in South Africa that can be awarded in Maxillo-Facial Surgery. He has held 7 different academic professorships and is a former Director of the IBCSOMS Senate. He established the multicentre Facial Cleft Deformity Treatment ‘’Clinic’’ in Pretoria, which is the largest cleft clinic in Africa and which has > 4950 registered patients. He was one of the first International Program Directors training-fellowship program in Cleft Lip and Palate and Craniomaxillofacial Surgery (2010 – 2013). He has published more than 390 scientific papers and abstracts (more than 190 on cleft treatment alone), a number of books and/or chapters in books (6 on cleft treatment) and presented more than 400 (> 180 on invitation) extra-curricular lectures, nationally and internationally in more than 25 countries.
